By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
Our challenge is to engage all of our students so that they can achieve their best mathematical learning outcomes. Our aim is to develop students' mathematical thinking, understanding, competence and confidence in the application of mathematics while capturing their creativity, enjoyment and appreciation of the subject, and their engagement in lifelong learning.
Cromer Campus offers Mathematics Enrichment classes in Years 7 and 8. These classes focus on the Working Mathematically strand of the syllabus and students do work that is more challenging and designed to provoke curiosity and deepen mathematical insight. Students look at alternate and more sophisticated techniques and proofs.
In Years 9 and 10, the students are graded into three different pathways of learning; 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3.
Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered include:
- Mathematics Advanced
- Mathematics Extension 1
- Mathematics Extension 2
- Mathematics Standard 1
- Mathematics Standard 2.
Cromer Campus students have unlimited access to the Mathspace website. This resource is integrated into lessons and can be used at home at any time. This program has seen an improvement in students' results and engagement with mathematics. Senior students also have access to Edrolo.
