English

The study of English in all its forms enables students to expand their horizons by delving into new and unknown worlds where they can make connections, understand the world they are a part of and become confident critical thinkers.

Developing proficiency in English enables students to take their place as confident communicators; critical and imaginative thinkers; lifelong learners; and informed, active participants in Australian society. Their understanding of English through knowledge and skills acquisition is essential to their intellectual, social and emotional development.

We aim to develop our students’ ability to critically analyse and evaluate the world around them by encouraging our core values of acceptance, tolerance, multiculturalism and self-awareness. Students are given the confidence to develop their own point of view as well as listen to and understand those of others.

Studying a broad range of texts develops students’ ability to understand, articulate and justify their point of view as well as understand the plurality of perspectives in a 21st century context. Students today read more than their parents and grand-parents and are increasingly challenged to navigate a multidimensional and fast paced digital environment. It is essential that students are equipped to meet these challenges critically and imaginatively.

The English Faculty at NBSC Cromer Campus is committed to meeting these challenges by delivering quality educational experiences to a diverse range of students ensuring the development of individual skills in a collegial and inclusive environment.
