Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:

  • Community and Family Studies
  • Exploring Early Childhood
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.

Sport Awards

Active Education

Sport and Physical Education are strengths of Cromer Campus with a significant number of students representing at national, state, zone, college and local level each year.

At Cromer Campus our Physical Education and Health Education classes assist all students to improve their level of physical fitness, gain skills and make informed choices for a healthy lifestyle. We encourage participation in an extensive range of sports, in the context of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport Studies, Sport Lifestyle and Recreation, Grade and Recreational Sport.

Team sports offered include athletics, netball, football, volleyball, cricket, rugby league, soccer, touch football and basketball. Each year our athletes compete against students from other schools in the zone, region and state in a variety of knockout competitions. We are very proud of our sporting history and consistently field teams in all sports in the Warringah - North Shore Grade Sport competition.

Gala Day

Recreational activities available include surfing, body boarding, yoga, recreational soccer, recreational touch football, gymnastics, self-defence classes, fishing, ten pin bowling, lawn bowls, and weights training.

Cromer Campus has a large, purpose built gymnasium fully equipped with multi-purpose fixtures and gymnastics equipment. We are also equipped with an excellent weights room, multi-purpose courts and a large multi-purpose football oval for outdoor games.

Cromer Campus students are privileged to have access to excellent local facilities which include Cromer Park, St Mathews Farm Reserve, James Morgan Reserve and Dee Why, and Curl Curl Beaches. Local beaches and local Pool facilities are utilised for Surfing, Beach Activities, Lifesaving and Swimming.

Swimming Carnival

At Cromer Campus we provide excellent opportunities to undertake senior study pathways in the field of Physical Education through two unit Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and Sport Lifestyle and Recreation classes. Exemplary results are achieved due to high student expectations, strongly encouraged self-discipline and a dedicated team of professional Physical Education Staff.
